Fotoğraf, fotoğrafçının bakış açısıyla  üretilmiş bir mekan alteridir. Bir başka deyişle, var olanla birlikte, bağımsız bir ‘şey’ yaratma arayışıdır. Mekan bakıştan bağımsız olamaz. Mekanın imkan verdiği tüm fotoğraflar, bir mekan yaratıcı olarak her seferinde bu yüzden değişir, değişmelidir.

Ernest Hemingway’in Paris’te geçirdiği 1920’li yılları anlattığı anı kitabı Paris Bir Şenliktir, yazarın kendi sanatını bir şehir üzerinden nasıl bulduğunu ve geliştirdiğini anlatır. Yazar kitapta Paris’te edindiği yaşam deneyimleriyle sanatını keşfetme ve kendini ifade etme sürecini birlikte şekillendirir. Genç bir yazar olarak gelişim yolculuğunu ve kendi sesini bulma sürecini okuyucuya aktaran kitap, Nurra Yazıcı için sanatsal kimliğini keşfetme ve yaratıcı sürecini tetikleme konusunda ilham olan bir rehber kitaptır. 

Fotoğrafın da tıpkı yazı ve edebiyat alanında olduğu gibi ilhamla yönlenen sanatsal bir üretim olduğuna inanan sanatçı, şehirler ve kitaplar araştırma serisiyle, temsil ve kimlik sahibi imgeleri biyografik yapıtlara dönüştürür. Beyaz bir yüzey veya boş bir espas yerine halihazırda kendini alımlıyıcıların zihninde defalarca üretmiş olan imajlar ve kelimeler üzerine inşaa ettiği fotoğrafları, hem öznel hem de temsili içeriklerini aynı anda barındırır. Çalışmalar kolektif nitelikleri ile ön plana çıkarken özgün üretim ve teknik denemeler için izleyicinin beklentisini ve sanatçının oyun alanını genişletir. Kitapta yer alan Paris mekanlarını ve temalarını yeniden canlandırarak ve fotoğraflayarak kendi hikayesini yaratabileceği aurayı yazardan ödünç alır.

Bildik bir şehir, deneyimlenmiş mekanlar, denenmiş ve çalışmış bir metodoloji üzerinden kendi özgün yorum katmanlarını araştıran Nurra Yazıcı, Hemingway’in kitapta yer alan alıntıları ile ürettiği fotoğraf yerleştirmelerinde temsil ve kimlik izlerini birbiri içine giren ve ayırt edilemeyen akışlar olarak yeniden üretir. Kendisi ve izleyici için hafızayı harekete geçiren sezgisel egzersizler yarattığı yapıtları aslında tamamen dürtüsel bir yaratım oyununun çıktılarıdır. Bu keşif oyunu sayesinde sanatçı edebiyat, hafıza, şehir ve yeniden üretimi tetikleyici ve sürükleyici bir araştırma yöntemi olarak denemektedir.

Hafızayı ve anlatıyı şekillendiren imgelerle oynayarak yeni kavramlar ve karşılaşmalar yaratmayı hedefleyen sanatçı, kitaplar, yazarlar ve şehirler üzerinden kendi zihin haritasının adreslerini arar. Küratörlüğünü Filiz Ağdemir’in yaptığı “Solo 1.5: Hemingway’le Selfie” proje sergisiyle temsil ve kimlik sahibi imgelerle kendi sanat pratiği arasında doğurgan ve yaratıcı geçişleri izleyicilerle paylaşan Nurra Yazıcı, şehirleri fotoğraflarla, yazılarla hatta düşüncelerle birlikte yeniden üreterek izleyici ile bir araya gelebileceği sezgisel mekanlar yaratmayı amaçlar.

Photography is an alteration of space produced by the photographer’s point of view. In other words, it is the search for creating an independent ‘thing’ together with the existing one. Space cannot be independent of the gaze. This is why all photographs that a space allows, as a space creator, change and should change every time.

Ernest Hemingway’s memoir, A Moveable Feast, which recounts his time in Paris in the 1920s, tells the story of how the author found and developed his art through a city. In the book, the author shapes his artistic discovery and self-expression process together with the life experiences he gained in Paris. The book, which conveys to the reader the writer’s journey of development as a young writer and the process of finding his own voice, is a guiding book for Nurra Yazıcı in discovering her artistic identity and triggering her creative process.

Believing that photography, like writing and literature, is an artistic production driven by inspiration, the artist transforms images with representation and identity into biographical works with her series of research on cities and books. Instead of a white surface or an empty space, her photographs, which she constructs on images and words that the audience has already produced in their minds many times, contain both subjective and representational content at the same time. While her works come to the fore with their collective qualities, they expand the viewer’s expectation and the artist’s playground for original production and technical experiments.

By reviving and photographing the places and themes in the book in Paris, Nurra Yazıcı borrows the aura from the author where she can create her own story. Exploring her own layers of interpretation through a familiar city, experienced spaces, and a tried and tested methodology, Nurra Yazıcı re-produces traces of representation and identity as intertwining and indistinguishable flows in her photographic installations using Hemingway’s quotes from the book. The works she creates, which are actually the outputs of a completely impulsive creative game, create intuitive exercises that trigger memory for herself and the viewer.

Aiming to play with images that shape memory and narrative and create new concepts and encounters, the artist searches for the addresses of her own mind map through books, authors, and cities. With the project exhibition “Solo 1.5: Hemingway with Selfie” curated by Filiz Ağdemir, Nurra Yazıcı, who shares the productive and creative transitions between images with representation and identity and her own artistic practice with the audience, aims to create intuitive spaces where she can come together with the audience by reproducing cities with photographs, texts, and even thoughts.
